Abstract:
The chapter explores the possibilities of the Internet in the teaching of history. Initially, the term "Internet" is analyzed, its connection with historical education is highlighted and the strategies of simple and complex search are presented. This is followed by an evaluation of historical Internet sources based on (1) origin, (2) reliability, (3) validity, (4) accuracy, and (5) importance. Then, indicative websites of historical Internet reference are presented by category: Thematic Portals, Repositories, Electronic Libraries, Museums, digital tools, extensions and applications of the Internet for organizing historical sources in thematic folders on the computer and in the "cloud", and digital tools for searching historical sources of the Internet. The second part focuses on the pedagogical framework of using the Internet in history teaching. Activities using selected web applications follow, in order to understand that history is an activity that depends on a historical question, the choice of historical sources and their interpretation, and is signified on the basis of their intentional function and the point of view they adopt. Each activity focuses on cultivating skills that develop basic concepts of historical thinking (Seixas, 2017) and digital citizenship.
