This chapter is a critical review of the employment policy implemented in Greece from the mid-1990s until today. We discuss how the public debate has evolved, the causes of unemployment and the importance of the European framework in both the formulation and financing of Greek employment policy. The chapter concludes with a brief critical overview of the key features of employment policy during the prolonged recession (2009-2017) and the recent COVID-19 crisis.
