The chapter examines the different types of employment policy in terms of objectives, logic and effectiveness. It covers passive and active labour market policies, which delineate employment policy “in the narrow sense” as well as policies to reduce working time, institutional reforms to increase labour market flexibility and expansionary macroeconomic policies which fall within the scope of employment policy “in the broad sense”.
