This chapter introduces the most commonly used concepts to analyze regional inequality, known as σ-convergence (σ-convergence) and β-convergence (β-convergence). In addition, there are presented the main techniques and methods for the measurement of regional inequality, as well as their most important problems and difficulties. Many of these difficulties will be solved in the ways that will be presented in the third part of the monograph.
