Abstract: |
In the context of qualitative assessment of learning outcomes, the technique “Structure of observed learning outcomes - SOLO taxonomy” is presented. The taxonomy records the different levels of learners' understanding, through the results obtained from learning activities, which require justification and documentation. Learner responses are categorized into different levels of understanding, which make up a hierarchy of levels. The SOLO taxonomy proposes five hierarchical levels, whose criteria are: a) the number of relevant elements concerning the topic studied, b) the relationship among the elements and c) the reaching of substantiated conclusions. The gradations of these, shape and define the five distinct levels of understanding: the pre-structural, the unistructural, the multistructural, the relational, and the fifth level of extended abstraction or theoretical generalization. The example on SOLO taxonomy aims to evaluate the distinction between the concepts of Internet and World Wide Web.
