Parametric Curves in the Plane and Space
Authors: Azariadis-Topaloglou, Filippos

Description:
Abstract:
The chapter begins with basic concepts from linear algebra and differential geometry. The concept of parametric continuity and intrinsic properties (like curvature, tangent, and perpendicular vector, etc.) in two and three dimensions are analyzed. Basic types of curves in the plane are presented (circle, arc, ellipse) and free-form curves in two and three dimensions are defined. The basic properties are analyzed for each case of a free-form curve and several examples and cases are given. The chapter concludes with the concepts of interpolation and approximation of points in space.
