Social resilience refers to the ability of communities to cope with shocks to their social infrastructure. In this chapter, the social concept of resilient spatial planning and the parameters shaping social resilience are developed. The concepts of social cohesion and resilience are analyzed, and the role of participatory processes in the development of resilient cities is examined with the use of case studies.
