Abstract: |
Public spaces define urban resilience. The locations of public spaces, their relationship with the rest of the city’s areas, and the possibility of easy and quick access are key elements that create the right conditions for urban resilience. In this chapter, the author examines the role of public space, its categories, and its characteristics in cities. The chapter proceeds to the analysis of the sub-categories of public spaces, parks, public squares, and coastal zones for the investigation of their potential and perspectives and their design principles to function as spaces that provide urban resilience. Finally, in the last section, the role that inactive urban spaces can have so that they can be key poles for achieving urban resilience is examined.
