Abstract:
In this chapter, sustainable urban mobility is analyzed as a key parameter for the achievement of resilient cities. The need to reduce vehicle use dependence and promote sustainable mobility forms are key factors for the development of resilient cities. The first section of this chapter examines the principles of sustainable urban mobility and the international policies that promote its development. The following parts of the chapter are divided into two main subsections. The first subsection analyzes the means that need to be promoted, and the second the means that need to be discouraged through urban planning. Thus, the first subsection analyzes pedestrian, cycling, and mass transport means planning principles. In the second subsection urban planning principles for vehicle planning are analyzed. Finally, the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP), which are strategic and operational plans with a holistic approach and aim to cover mobility needs for the development of resilient cities, are examined.
