Authors: Dimelli, Despina
Description:
Abstract:
Urban density is an important factor in shaping resilient cities. In the second chapter two types of city spatial development based on urban density are examined, sprawled and compact cities. For each type of city, the chapter examines their types and characteristics and the advantages and disadvantages that they present at environmental, social, and economic levels. Additionally, the spatial planning policies applied for urban containment and the promotion of compact development are analyzed. In the final section, the issue of optimal density and its role in developing resilient cities are analyzed.
