This Chapter details how smart contracts are used to generate tokens in a blockchain network. More specifically, emphasis is placed on the role played by Ethereum in the development of tokens, by introducing the corresponding standards for them. A detailed presentation of the most popular ERC Token standards on the Ethereum network, also takes place. Finally, other examples of standards for tokens on Ethereum, but, also, on other networks (e.g., EOS, Tezos) are presented.
