Abstract: |
This chapter focuses on transactions that take place on a blockchain network. In particular, it uses examples from real transactions on the Bitcoin and Ethereum networks to explain their structure and syntax, focusing on the key difference that characterizes the way these two large networks handle transactions. In addition, it explains how the user's digital signatures are used (in wallet applications) in each transaction to confirm ownership of the amount being transferred. Finally, it is presented how Merkle trees are used to facilitate the search of a transaction in a block, but also how they allow the integration of more transactions in each block.
