Abstract:
The book deals with the analysis, design and development of information systems and includes the required knowledge as taught in the context of corresponding courses in most University Departments related to Information Technology and Management Technology. The basic principles, the theoretical background and the available techniques of management, design and modelling of information systems in the context of businesses and organizations are given in a clear and comprehensible manner. The theoretical background is accompanied by examples of the application of the methods and techniques presented. The book is structured in 4 parts: (1) PART A: INTRODUCTION. It introduces the reader to basic concepts related to systems theory and information systems. (2) PART B: INFORMATION SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT. It covers topics related to the life cycle of information systems and enterprise architectures. (3) PART C: INFORMATION SYSTEMS ANALYSIS AND DESIGN. It covers the theoretical background, methods and techniques of systems analysis and design. System data, functions, processes and information flow are explained. This part also presents the theoretical background of business process management, decision modeling, and technologically supported information systems. (4) PART D: SPECIAL TOPICS. It covers specific topics related to the analysis, design and development of information systems, such as industrial systems, intelligent information systems, data analytics in business process mining, and analysis and design software.
