The Indian peculiarity of democratic stability. The characteristics of the major protest movements that developed in India, their relation to the effort of important social sectors to integrate into the central framework of the Indian political system, and their impact on the Indian constitutional system and its potential for transformation or collapse. The secular definition of salvation in India and its relation to the high level of realism of the major protest movements, the facilitative attitudes of the state towards them and the relatively low level of ideologicalization of political conflicts. The Indian Self as a hybrid of traditional statics and modern reflection.
