Description:
Abstract:
Pulmonary function tests are the main tests used in the daily medical practice of the Respiratory Physician. However, they are also useful for the individual clinician to assess the capacity of the respiratory system. This book aims to be a useful aid for every clinician, and a tool for deepening anyone with a special interest in Respiratory medicine. As the educational gaps in this subject are known, we believe this book will be useful to medical students and young doctors. In this book, basic elements of respiratory mechanics are described, and then the corresponding chapters analyze the functional tests of the respiratory system, which include spirometry, measurement of diffusing capacity of the lungs, body plethysmography, measurements of respiratory muscles, and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. In addition, the utility of pulse oximetry and measured nitric oxide is demonstrated. Finally, reference is made to the tests used to assess respiratory function in children, and the particularities presented in this special population. The knowledge presented in this book is enriched by the clinical examples and reinforced by the questions at the end of each chapter. And of course, the study can be continued in the recommended books and other related electronic resources.
