The chapter deals with transformational banking operations in the context of traditional banking intermediation. In this way, an effort is made to show the role and usefulness of banking institutions in the economic and political system, as banks take on various types of risks (e.g., borrower insolvency risk, interest rate risk) on behalf of the depositor. Also, the structure of the banking system and the types of banks operating in the economy are presented. Special mention is made of various types of banks such as central banks, commercial banks, investment banks, cooperative banks, etc. In addition, various banking operations are presented that are developed and offered by the financial institutions.
