Abstract: |
The complex nature of time and change continue to make the design of spatio-temporal models a complex issue, although significant research advances have been made. This chapter both documents and evaluates the spatial representation models adopted by international standards and contemporary spatial infrastructures, and introduces concepts in a model that is capable of addressing temporal issues. To this end, the concepts of time and change and how they are addressed in contemporary research activity are analysed, and the basic assumptions for the proposed model, which can form the basis of a complete spatio-temporal GIS, are defined.
