Abstract: |
This chapter focuses on the specific characteristics of geographical concepts in terms of perception, conceptualization/capture, and representation of geographical reality. First, the differences in the way geographical concepts are defined and classified, as well as important problems that arise due to these differences, are analysed. Then some basic knowledge about ontologies and semantics of concepts is introduced. Finally, the main dimensions used to describe geographical concepts and entities are described.
