Brain plasticity and functional compensation
Authors: Triarchou, Lazaros
Reviewer: Panagis, Georgios
Description:
Abstract:
This chapter examines the capabilities of the human brain for functional compensation across different stages of life. Psycholinguistic and neuroanatomical data from the literature are analyzed, indicating that regions of the cerebral hemispheres can produce and comprehend speech to some extent in a compensatory manner through the action of a homologous network, even in cases of brain injury, reinforcing the concept of lifelong plasticity of the central nervous system.
