Description:
Abstract:
This chapter is divided in two parts. The first part presents the concept of mechanical work and its various forms such as the positive and negative work as well as the work of accelerated and lifted objects. Further, an introduction is attempted into the concepts of potential and kinetic energy, the principle of conservation of energy and their usefulness for sport movement interpretation. The second part presents the application of basic principles of projectile motion in sports. This includes examination of the factors that affect an object path in the air such as the conditions at release and the forces that are being applied to the object. The equations used to estimate the kinematics of an object in the air are also presented. Finally, the effects of air-resistance on sport technique are discussed with a focus on the spin of sport instruments.
