| Abstract: |
The aim of this chapter is to demonstrate that bibliometric analyses lead to quantitative research and performance indicators. Another key objective is to present the most important bibliometric indicators along with their definitions, observations regarding their advantages and limitations, as well as their construction and use. The chapter will further highlight that, in addition to measuring performance, these indicators also allow for the mapping of connections between researchers and research areas, through statistical analysis of co-authorships and citations.
