Abstract: |
This lab serves as an introduction to three-terminal devices. The operating principle of the transistor is explained with an emphasis on the dependence of the conductivity between the collector and emitter terminals on the voltage between the base and emitter terminals. The behavior of the bipolar transistor is studied through simulation and laboratory measurements. Using a voltage divider with a variable resistor, different voltage values are applied between the transistor’s base and emitter, and the I–V characteristic between the collector and emitter terminals is measured for each case. For the I–V measurements, a second variable resistor is used to vary the voltage applied between collector and emitter, VCE.
