Description:
Abstract:
The book covers the basic topics of Information Retrieval offering the reader the necessary knowledge to understand the area and the basic tools. Although no apriori special knowledge is required, the reader should have a basic understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms and Databases. First, the most basic Recovery models that have been used are given. Two basic directory mechanisms are then presented: the inverted index directory and the signature-based directory. Lists are primarily used for efficient query answering. The next chapter studies Latent Semantic Analysis, which is a key technique for improving the quality of results. Next, the main topics of Information Retrieval in the World Wide Web are covered. Finally, the book concludes with a chapter covering Relevancy Feedback which aims to increase the accuracy of the results.
