The chapter will describe and analyze the modern diagnostic methods and tools available to the dentist for the detection and localization of carious lesions in both the molar and the root. Diagnostic tools based on clinical examination, radiographic examination, and fluorescence will be analyzed, while other, but less frequently used, diagnostic tools will also be mentioned. Finally, there will be a description and analysis of the factors involved in shaping the individual's caries risk.
