Abstract

Το κεφάλαιο αυτό αποτελεί εισαγωγή στις Υπηρεσίες Ιστού (Web Services-WS) και τις συναφείς τεχνολογίες υποστήριξής τους. Αρχικά, γίνεται μια εισαγωγική αναφορά στις WS και στη στοίβα των πρωτοκόλλων που χρησιμοποιούν, και εξετάζονται διεξοδικά οι δυνατότητές τους και οι στόχοι τους οποίους μπορούμε να επιτύχουμε με αυτές. Στη συνέχεια, παρουσιάζονται αναλυτικά το πρωτόκολλο Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), με το οποίο ανταλλάσσονται μηνύματα μεταξύ της WS και ενός πελάτη της, καθώς και η Web Services Description Language (WSDL), η οποία είναι η γλώσσα περιγραφής των WS. Κατόπιν, εξετάζεται η Universal Discovery Description and Integration (UDDI), η οποία είναι η υπηρεσία ανακάλυψης WS. Επίσης, γίνεται σύγκριση των WS με τις τεχνολογίες RMI, CORBA και EJB, και δίνεται ένα εκτενές παράδειγμα του τρόπου υλοποίησης των Java WS. Επίσης, εξετάζεται μια νέα εκδοχή των WS, τα Restful Web Services, μέσα από ένα λεπτομερές παράδειγμα υλοποίησης.

This chapter serves as an introduction to Web Services (WS) and the related technologies that support them. Initially, it provides an overview of WS and the stack of protocols they use, and it thoroughly examines their capabilities and the goals we can achieve with them. Next, it details the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), which is used for exchanging messages between WS and a client, as well as the Web Services Description Language (WSDL), which is the description language for WS. Following that, the Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI) is examined, which is the WS discovery service. The chapter also compares WS with RMI, CORBA, and EJB technologies, and provides an extensive example of how Java WS are implemented. Additionally, it explores a new version of WS, Restful Web Services, through a detailed implementation example.
