Abstract: |
In the late Modern Greek 19th century, the centre of artistic studies and developments is being shifted from Munich to Paris, wherein the acquaintance of the Greek artists with the movements of modernism occurs. At the same time, the research is broadened and the study of the immediate past is intensified aiming at the elevation of the continuance of the authentic Modern Greek spirit across all aspects of the spiritual activity. In this context, the Greek artists will appreciate the expressive values and the non-conformist aesthetic qualities of dogmatic art. Typical case of return to the aesthetic models and the rules of the Byzantine and post-Byzantine phase of the traditional culture constitutes Fotis Kontoglou. Inside the chapter the career of the visual artist and writer is being closely watched, his creations are analysed and his artistic choices are interpreted, integrated into their political and historical contexts.
