Abstract:
This chapter presents the evolution of history from the time of its so-called "father" to the period of the Enlightenment. It analyzes both the use of history and the need for historical knowledge in various eras, as well as the innovative ideas and principles with which the Enlightenment endowed societies, the sciences, and particularly the science of history. The aim is for students to understand that the evolution of historical science should be sought in the gradual ideological maturation of political societies, the progress of sciences, the spread of books and education, the form of political regimes, and ultimately that historical knowledge was not necessarily a social demand in earlier times as we perceive such a demand today. Thus, they will gradually become familiar with the "fate" of the great historians of antiquity in later societies and with the relationship between people and societies with history.
