Description:
Abstract:
This chapter introduces the basic programming models and programming standards primarily (but not exclusively) for distributed memory systems. It then focuses on the message-passing model, which has become universally dominant in these systems, almost exclusively in the form of MPI (Message Passing Interface). The reader is assumed to have basic knowledge of classical (sequential) programming. The chapter covers version 2.0 of the MPI standard.
