Abstract:
This chapter introduces the basic programming models and programming standards primarily (but not exclusively) for shared memory systems. The reader is assumed to have basic knowledge of classical (sequential) programming, and based on this, the following models are described: (a) multithreaded programming using POSIX threads, (b) programming with the OpenMP (3.1) model, which is the most widely used.
