Description:
Abstract:
Hemostasis (clot formation) is divided in 3 phases: primary , secondary hemostasis and fibrinolysis. Primary hemostasis requires an intact blood vessel, normal platelet number and normal platelet aggregation. The current model of hemostasis , is called the cell based model of hemostasis ”. The entire process of the sequential activation of coagulation factors occurs on cells or even cell membranes and surfaces of negatively charged phospholipids. Thrombin is the key molecule, which with positive and negative feedback mechanisms controls both the production and lysis of the clot.. Screening laboratory tests of hemostasis include platelet number, prothrombin time (PT), Activated thromboplastin time (aPTT) and fibrinogen.
