Abstract:
The aim of this chapter is the presentation of the main household refrigeration applications focusing on food preservation. At first, preservation methods prior to the introduction of refrigerators are presented. Then, modern refrigeration technologies are discussed. Emphasis is placed on the refrigeration fluids which are associated with stratospheric ozone depletion and global warming. Finally, best practices aiming at reducing the environmental impacts of domestic refrigeration are presented and discussed.
