Description:
Abstract:
Here are two exercises, designed to help the student study the growth of the plant in all stages, from seed germination to the production of fruits and new seeds. So-called ‘fast plants’ (Brassica rapa) are used, genetically selected to complete the seed-seed cycle in about 35 days. They are also small enough in size to provide excellent material for laboratory exercises. In the proposed exercises, the student will observe the growth of groups of plants supplied with different concentrations of inorganic nutrients (usually N/P/K) and determine the effects of their deficiency on the growth of their vegetative (leaves, shoot, roots) and reproductive organs. Unlike the others, which are completed in the usual laboratory three-hour period, these exercises require the short-term presence of the student at regular intervals.
