Description:
Abstract:
Contains three sub-chapters-exercises. In the first, the question of the actual and potential maximum water content of leaves is posed and both quantities are measured quantitatively. In the second, the combination of forces determining the direction of water movement in plant tissues and cells is analysed. The water potential and its two components, namely the sparging pressure and the osmotic pressure, are quantified. In the third exercise, the physiology of the water vapour escape pathway from the leaf mouths is examined and the opening of the stomatal pores, the resistance to water vapour exit and the transpiration rate are quantified.
