Abstract:
This textbook refers to the physiotherapeutic treatment of diseases and injuries of the peripheral nervous system (PNS). It consists of 10 chapters in which: - Anatomical and pathophysiological data are described for both the central and peripheral nervous systems; pathological anatomical changes in peripheral neuropathies; the examination and assessment of patients with peripheral neuropathy; the medical treatment of peripheral neuropathies; the objectives of physical therapy methods and techniques. - Methods of physical therapy assessment of the patient are recommended, as well as the methods and means of physical therapy treatment in each individual case. - A detailed description is given of the physical therapy treatment of injuries to the main nerves and nerve plexuses, such as: injuries to the facial and trigeminal nerves, injuries to the cervical and brachial plexus. - A complete description is provided of the clinical picture, causes, and physical therapy treatment of obstetric paralysis (brachial plexus injury during childbirth), as well as of all nerves originating from the cervical and brachial plexus. - Damage to the lumbar and sacral plexus is described, as well as all the individual nerves of the lower limbs (anatomical and pathophysiological description, causes of damage, physical therapy approach, assessment and treatment for each nerve separately). Finally, Greek and foreign bibliography is provided, as well as an index of medical terms and words.
