Abstract: |
The sixth chapter focuses on prose writing during the seven years of the Colonial Junta (1967-1974). The chapter is divided into three parts. The first part gives the historical context and outlines the mode of operation of dictatorial propaganda. The second part presents the attitude of the writers. By following their first important reactions - the breaking of the silent resistance of the first period (1967-1969) with Seferis's anti-dictatorial statement in 1969, the publication of three collective volumes (Ten Eight Texts, New Texts and New Texts 2) in the following two years (1970 and 1971 ) - and the debate on prose writing that takes place in the literary magazine H Συνέia (1973), we trace the dominant demand of the period: Art, in one way or another, has to take a stand, to react to the regime of silencing imposed by the dictatorship. In the third part, we examine typical prose texts of the period, which engage in political and social critique, adopting a more or less allusive mode of expression.
