Abstract: |
This chapter provides a concise overview of the basic information necessary for understanding the rest of the book. It describes the number of neurons, the weight of the brain, its evolutionary development, neuronal circuits, the various types of neurons, and synapses with neurotransmitters. We also discuss organizational parameters, internal and external stimuli, periods of special sensitivity, brain mapping, the effects of sensory deprivation and, finally, the enhancement of neurogenesis-synaptogenesis as a phenomenon related to exposure to musical stimuli during the relevant period of special sensitivity.
