Description:
Abstract:
In the chapter titled “Stonewall (1969): From Repression to Trans Healing”, we aim to explore the riots at Compton’s Cafeteria (1966) and Stonewall (1969). We will examine how non-binary individuals and homosexuals have been defined by sociobiological-evolutionary theories as not sufficiently developed species. Following this period, a sexist and colonial discourse on human nature drove power and control in scientific practice, from repression to “therapies” for those deemed “mentally ill” according to the Western colonial and patriarchal scientific narrative.
