Abstract:
We discuss the energy range of validity of classical and relativistic mechanics, as well as the wave or particle description of nuclear collisions. We also estimate the time scales of processes relevant in nuclear collisions and compare them with typical time scales of alpha, beta and gamma decay. We review classical two-body kinematics and the relation between angles in oblique collisions. We finally discuss the energy balance and conservation laws in nuclear reactions.
