Description:
Abstract:
In this chapter, a brief historical review concerning the research efforts that shaped the modern systematic taxonomy of foraminifera is presented. The environmental factors controlling the bathymetric distribution of benthic foraminifera are described. Particular emphasis is given to the development and use of biotic indices for the environmental monitoring of coastal marine ecosystems.
