Abstract: |
Chapter Objective:
Transitioning from different models of knowledge organization, such as tabular organization and the relational model, to the graph model of semantic triples in the Resource Description Framework (RDF).
Contents:
Conventional models of information organization: the relational model and data represented in the form of a simple table (tabular). Semantic information in these models.
The graph and the triples representation of knowledge (subject-predicate-object) in RDF.
The use and semantics of URIs (or IRIs - Internationalized Resource Identifiers, a broader concept of URIs) in one of the three parts of an RDF triple.
The difference in URI usage between the Semantic Web and Linked Data.
Datatypes, representation, and use as objects (literals) in RDF triples.
Blank nodes and their practical local usage.
Selected RDF data storage formats (serialization): N-Triples, Turtle, RDF/XML, RDFa, and JSON-LD.
