Abstract:
In the first chapter, the aim is to introduce the reader into maritime life and maritime culture that developed the shipyard. We examine aspects of maritime culture such as: nautical terminology, navigation routes, ships, launching ceremonies, the adventures of Greek shipping and shipbuilding. We present the subjects in reference to navigation, maritime networks, commercial relations and exchanges, the transportation of products, goods and works of art, developments in the construction technology of the vessels. For this, we refer to written sources, shipwreck findings, related poetry and myths, iconography of wall paintings or ceramic vases.
