Description:
Abstract:
This chapter presents some introductory elements of number systems and number codes, as well as elements of logic, theorems, laws, axioms and properties of Boolean algebra. There is also an introduction to Boolean functions, available operations and operators, and function simplification techniques (e.g. simplification with Karnaugh maps). The concept of logic gates and their characteristics, the concept of truth table and the concept of universality of NAND and NOR gates are also introduced. In addition, we give all the necessary information for the synthesis and analysis of combinational (e.g. encoders, decoders, adders etc.) and sequential circuits (e.g. counters). This chapter also introduces the various types of latches (e.g. S-R) and flip-flops (e.g. D, J-K, T) used in sequential circuits.
