Description:
Abstract:
Harvesting fruits and vegetables is a laborious and expensive process and for this reason there was a need for its complete automation. In this chapter, robots for the harvesting of sweet peppers, cucumbers, apples, strawberries, etc. are presented in detail. Both the self-propelled platforms and the harvesting manipulators are described, while the electromechanical and pneumatic end effectors used to pick the fruits and place them in plastic crates, are thoroughly presented. Special emphasis is given to the presentation of systems for fruit identification and location, such as monochromatic and color cameras, ultrasonic radar, thermal and multispectral cameras, LiDAR, etc.
