Abstract:
This chapter provides a brief introduction to mobile robots. The motion systems of ground-based robots are described. Emphasis is placed on robots with wheels. Crawler robots, robots with mechanical legs, and spherical rolling robots are also presented. In addition, sensors and navigation systems for mobile robots such as path planning and simultaneous localization and mapping systems are discussed.
