In this chapter, a brief historical review is given, showing the development of robotics from ancient times to modern times, based on some milestones. The definition and fundamental concepts of robots are introduced. A categorization of robots according to their geometric shape and application area is presented. In addition, some use cases of robots in modern agriculture are analyzed.
