Abstract:
During the first postwar decades, before the advent of the personal computer, academics in Anglo-American research universities mobilized the mathematics of relations and structures — the so-called “modern mathematics”— to “modernize” architectural knowledge. The current chapter examines the use and broader meanings of “modern” mathematics for the invention of new algorithmic theories and methods of design.
