Description:
Abstract:
For the study of a space heating or cooling system using shallow geothermal energy, where the heat and thermal properties of geological formations are utilized, it is necessary to determine and evaluate the physical and thermal properties of the subsoil. This allows the assessment of the subsoil's ability to transfer and store thermal energy. In Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) systems, the soil should have high thermal conductivity, ensuring easy heat transfer to and from the ground loops during heating and cooling operations. This chapter also refers to geological elements and the process of estimating the geothermal potential of a region in the Hellenic territory.
