Designing Urban Space Coherently: Vision, Rationale, Governance
Authors: Christodoulou, Charis
Oikonomou, Maria
Description:
Abstract:
The chapter presents a synthesis of the processes that make up the practice of urban design, as an urban space design project and in the wider context of its production and urban governance. The chapter focuses on the creative-compositional process of project making, but also on the comprehensive systematic study in stages, which leads to the implementation (ideas and concepts, rationale, strategies, detailed elaboration of proposals) at overlapping scales. It also approaches urban design as a process of continuous production of urban space as it unfolds in the "real world", with an emphasis on consultation, participation and decision-making processes.
