Urban Space Representations
Authors: Christodoulou, Charis
Description:
Abstract:
The chapter refers to the means of representation in urban design, their specificities and their ongoing enrichment in the contemporary framework of theoretical considerations and practices. It highlights their different production processes (rational, creative etc.) using different tools, methods and techniques. The necessity for a concerted effort to represent urban complexity with a specific purpose, in the context of urban design, is highlighted. The chapter introduces the reflection on the city as an object of study, with different theoretical (epistemological) starting points, drawing evidence on historical milestones in architectural theory and urban planning, and on the related sciences and arts.
