Authors: Christodoulou, Charis

Description:
Abstract:
The chapter focuses on the architectural scale of urban space, as it is materially constituted by the different urban layouts, and as it is shaped and developed on the ground, the streets, squares and buildings, and also by the application of urban planning regulations. The concepts of "the city at the eye level" and "placemaking" are introduced, and aspects of liveable places for people are highlighted (i.e., accessibility, inclusivity). Creative micro-scale architectural design and micro-architecture of public space are also dealt with, provided with choices of urban equipment, lighting and materiality.
